180 Polish salesmen from travel agencies and journalists were accommodated in Kos
The Tourism Department of South Aegean Region in collaboration with the Association of Hoteliers of Kos and the Grecos Holiday sponsorships (the largest tour operator in Poland specializing in Greek market), Tourism Management office Destination One, groups Mitsis Hotels and Kipriotis Hotels, and the Municipality of Nisyros welcomed 180 Polish salesmen from travel agencies and journalists at Kos and Nisyros on 27-30 April in 2016.
This is an initiative of the Department of Tourism of PNAI aiming to overthrow the bad tourist image formed on Kos and beyond to the islands of the Dodecanese in 2015 due to immigration.
The members of the mission arrived in Kos at the afternoon of Holy Wednesday and received a warm welcome at the airport accompanied with local treats. On the morning of Holy Thursday the Tourism Vice Governor Marietta Papavasileiou, along with the District Officer of the Regional Unity of Kos, Mr. George Chalkidio, the president of the local Hotel Association, Mr. Dina Svinou and the president of the Commercial Kos Association, Mr. Paschalis Vrakidi held a press conference to the Polish journalists.
Thereafter, guests watched the ceremony of recitation of the Hippocratic oath, and had the opportunity to see local Easter customs and the execution of various traditional recipes. Finally, in the evening of the same day an official event was held in Kipriotis Panorama Hotel in honor of the guests with the participation of representatives of local authorities and entities.
The morning of Holy Friday the Polish delegation visited the volcanic island of Nisyros, where guests experienced the traditional island hospitality. At the evening, they followed the procession of the Epitaph in Kos and on Holy Saturday they departed.
The members of the Polish mission expressed their enthusiasm for the island of Hippocrates and noted that according to the experiences lived, Kos has nothing whatsoever to do with the impressions that were formed last year due to immigration. They pointed out how when they return home, will convey the real image formed during their stay, prompting skeptical Polish visitors to choose the island of Kos as a holiday destination. They stated that they are delighted by the hospitality of our islands.
Mrs. Papavasileiou states referring to the visit of the Polish mission in Kos:
"Althought the Polish market had a great potential, it showed a large drop concerning the island of Kos. The International Tourist exhibition in Berlin (ITB 2016 informed us about the facts mentioning a clear risk to reduce airline seats by 30% -40%.
After this initiative, representatives of the Polish tourist office were assured that the seats would remain at the levels of the previous year. They noted that after their trip, they will encourage Polish travelers to visit Kos, which is an entirely qualitative and safe tourist destination. According to the guests representatives of travel agencies in Poland, the demand for Kos is expected to be increased. "
